Why we go to temples or any religious place

Have you ever wondered why we go to temples or any religious place, and how does it help us? One may reason that the atmosphere in the temple where hundreds and thousands of other devotees are there creates a positive psychological effect. Let's try to understand this a bit more detail, and I will try to present some astrological reasons as well. To be specific, these are purely my point of view and understanding.

In Hindu culture, there are generally two streams of followers: Nirguna, God without manifestation, and Shaguna or God with form. I am not going to take any sides, but I will explain why many people follow the second stream.

We all know that we have a soul and body. Our body has shapes, sizes, colors, etc., but the soul is formless. The soul needs the body as a vehicle for the journey on the earth. When the soul's purpose for this lifetime is completed, the soul leaves the body, and the body gets assimilated into the five elements on this earth.

Similarly, we need some forms to understand God's manifestation. We all probably know that God is there in all of us, in every animal and every smallest particle. But when we visit the temple, we try to imagine God, how God would be. We all have our imagination, and accordingly, we all form some shapes, sizes, colors, and forms of God in our minds. Our imagination is driven by Kapha present in our bodies. The more positive Kapha we have, the better the imaginative powers we have. That's the reason many of the artists create such beautiful pictures of God.

The necessity of concentration on the embodied form of God was the main reason for the building of temples and religious places. Also, it is believed that the construction of the temple only started in Kalyuga. In the earlier higher-order Yugas, the man had powers to have direct union with Supreme power.

Now let's understand from an Astrological point of view. When someone visits a temple, one activates its 9th house, 9th lord, and Jupiter. Generally, the 9th house and its owner represent higher learning, our luck, and other benefice things in life, and people want to activate that. Jupiter is probably the most beneficent planet and hence blesses us with knowledge, wisdom, wealth, and so, the most desirable. For example, a person whose Jupiter or 9th Lord is in the 10th house in the horoscope, going to temples will probably bring good results in a career in general. Needless to say that other factors should be conducive. It is one of the reasons you must have heard that when a person starts going to a temple, his or her problems start getting solved.
